Weaving on a Frame Loom

Weaving workshop

Students will learn the basics of weaving on a table top frame loom. After warping their loom, students will explore different yarns and fabrics that can be used to create their individul project. A brief history of weaving will be shared as the students work on their projects

Participants will learn:

  • warping the loom
  • tabby stitch
  • changing colors
  • weaving in ends

No weaving experience required. All materials will be supplied for use during the workshop.

Weaving can be beneficial in so many ways:

  • because it simultaneoulsy uses both the dominant and non-dominate hand, weaving promotes hand-eye coordination, visual tracking, and awareness of spacial concepts
  • slow, repetive motion promotes relaxation
  • improves fine motor skills and strengthens muscles used for pincer grip
  • improves focus and sustained concentration
